Chapter 1
The battle cry echoed back to Star Tribe’s camp as another group of cats left to fight. Now, Tigerheart, Shinningnight, Swiftfoot, Dawnflower, Snowpetal, Icy, Weather, Risingspirit, and Moonshift were left in camp. You see, Rainbow Tribe had started the fight with Star Tribe over a piece of land. Tigerheart shivered as he heard the battle continue. “Tigerheart I need you and Moonshift to go look for some injured cats. Make sure no one finds you.” meowed Swiftfoot. Tigerheart nodded his head and trotted over to Moonshift as the young apprentice paced around nervously. He looked up as Tigerheart appeared. “Swiftfoot says we should find out if any of Star Tribe is injured and bring them back to camp.” explained Tigerheart not waiting for the apprentice to reply. “Let’s go.” As the two toms bounded out of camp, Moonshift looked excited. “Finally!” he meowed aloud. “Now I don’t feel useless since I wasn’t invited to the battle.” Tigerheart didn’t reply but just nodded his head and raced through the forest. Tigerheart winced as the cries of pain and anger got louder and louder. Tigerheart stopped in his tracks of what he saw next. It was like he had just walked into a living nightmare. Cats were everywhere, hostile and fighting tooth and claw. Tigerheart scanned the clearing and ducked as a Rainbow Tribe warrior wrestled with Starynight. Tigerheart moved around the clearing of fighting cats to see Rainbow Tribe’s healing cat, Bigheart and apprentice, Ivyleaf, were already dragging a cat to safety. Tigerheart met Ivyleaf’s eyes. He saw sorrow, apology, and misunderstanding reflect off his own eyes as Ivyleaf turned his head around to face his mentor. Moonshift shot past him and Tigerheart chased after him. Moonshift stopped beside a blood soaked pelt. “Tigerheart?” rasped the voice. “Is it you?” “Yes it’s me, Skypelt. Moonshift and I will take you back to camp so Swiftfoot can help you.” soothed Tigerheart as he grabbed the she-cat by the scruff and dragged her, with Moonshift, all the way back to camp. When the three cats came back to camp, Swiftfoot raced over to them with panic showing in her pale blue eyes as she looked at her mother. “Oh my!” she gasped. “Bring her to my den immediately.” Swiftfoot raced off into the healing den without another word. Tigerheart, Moonshift and Risingspirit brought Skypelt into the den and left Swiftfoot to take care of her mother. Tigerheart and Moonshift raced off once more.

Tigerheart looked around the clearing of fighting cats. “There’s no more badly injured Star Tribe warriors.” he reported as he and Moonshift walked Midnightshadow back to camp after he had injured his left front paw.

The three cats entered the camp and Risingspirit came to her brother’s aid. “You should be more careful.” she meowed sternly. Midnightshadow let out an amused purr and limped into the healing den. “Swiftfoot wants to see you Tigerheart.” meowed Risingspirit. Tigerheart sighed and padded into the healing den. “It looks like you broke your paw Midnightshadow.” exclaimed Swiftfoot. “Will I be able to hunt and fight again?” meowed Midnightshadow in panic. “Of course you will.” soothed Swiftfoot. “You just need to stay in camp for a little bit. Oh hi Tigerheart! I didn’t see you there.” Tigerheart nodded his head in greeting to Swiftfoot and Midnightshadow. “You wanted to see me?” he asked. “Oh yes right!” exclaimed Swiftfoot. “I need you to give Midnightshadow some poppy seeds so he can get some sleep and some Comfrey to heal his broken leg faster and then please help me with Skypelt.” Tigerheart nodded his head and dropped the poppy seeds and Comfrey next to Midnightshadow. “Eat these.” he instructed his father. “They’ll let your leg heal faster.” Midnightshadow dipped his head and gulped down the poppy seeds and Comfrey and then curled up to sleep. “What happened to Skypelt?” asked Tigerheart padding towards them. “Skypelt has a ripped ear and she’s got a long but not deep gash on her left shoulder.” reported Swiftfoot. “It hurts!” wailed Skypelt. “Get me some Chervile Root and Goldenrod.” ordered Swiftfoot. “I’ll get some cobweb for the wound.” Tigerheart searched through the pile of herbs and finally found the Chervile Root and Goldenrod for Skypelt to eat. Skypelt ate the herbs up in one gulp and rested her head on the ground as if Tigerheart had just given her poppy seeds to sleep. “Here,” meowed Swiftfoot handing Tigerheart some cobweb. “But this on Skypelt’s wound.” Tigerheart gently took the cobweb and gently pressed it against the wound on Skypelt’s shoulder. He heard a painful grunt from Skypelt but did nothing more. “There.” meowed Tigerheart satisfied. “Now it should stop bleeding but you’ll need to rest for a couple of days till it’s closed up and then you can go back to your warrior duties.” “Good job Tigerheart.” praised Swiftfoot. “Now let’s leave these two to rest.” As they walked out of the den, Risingspirit was perking her ears as if she could hear something. “Do you guys hear that?” she meowed happily. Tigerheart strained his ears to hear that the battle had stopped and he could hear the yowls of victory and triumph. “We’ve won!” yowled Risingspirit and Moonshift at the same time. Tigerheart sighed in relief.

Chapter 2
Dusttail came back to Rose and Hitch with three juicy rabbits in his mouth. The two kittypets opened their eyes wide and started to drool. Duskfur had already caught his prey, a juicy squirrel. “That looks delicious.” meowed Rose looking at the prey hungrily. “What is it?” Dusttail and Duskfur looked at her in shock. “Haven’t you ever heard of rabbit?” asked Duskfur in astonishment. Hitch and Rose shook their heads. “Never.” answered Rose as Dusttail dropped two rabbits at their paws. “Well it tastes really good. It’s Star Tribe’s favorite prey.” explained Dusttail eating his black, plump rabbit. Rose and Hitch looked at each other and bit into their rabbits. In several heart beats later, the two kittypets had eaten their rabbit. “I love the taste of rabbit!” exclaimed Hitch. “Yeah!” agreed Rose. “It’s way better than dry kibbles that we get.” “Now that we’re all finished our meals, how about we keep traveling?” meowed Duskfur licking his paw. “Good idea.” agreed Rose. “Lead the way.”

Chapter 3
Tigerheart fell into his nest in the healing den. All sun high Tigerheart had been working with injured cats and when Swiftfoot had finally said he could take a rest for the whole day, Tigerheart took it without another word. Tigerheart’s bones were aching from all the running back and forth from the healing den. But now, he could finally sleep in peace.

“Tigerheart! Wake up!” meowed a voice. Tigerheart opened his eyes. “Tigerheart! Finally! You’ve been sleeping till sun high!” Tigerheart jumped out of his nest to find Swiftfoot staring at him with concern showing her eyes. “Is everything ok?” she asked. Tigerheart shook his head. “I’m fine.” he replied. “Good.” meowed Swiftfoot. “Would you like to go to Peace Night tonight?” Tigerheart looked at her suspiciously. “I thought healing cats and their apprentices had to go to every single Peace Night?” he asked. “I know.” sighed Swiftfoot. “It’s just; I don’t think I can go tonight.” Tigerheart looked at his mentor in surprise. “Why not? You’ve never missed a Peace Night.” “From the battle yesterday, I don’t think I should go. I know that none of our warriors or apprentices are badly hurt it’s just, Skypelt, she doesn’t seem to be pulling through like the others.” explained Swiftfoot in a hushed and concerned voice. “I think she might be going blind.” Tigerheart looked at her in surprise. “Why do you think that?” he asked. “I don’t think it. I know it. Her eyes don’t look like other cats’ eyes anymore. And just yesterday night, she was complaining that she couldn’t see that well.” whispered Swiftfoot in sorrow. Tigerheart was silent for minute. “Did you try to use Celadine?” he suggested. Swiftfoot nodded. “Yes! I’ve tried everything we have but nothing worked.” she meowed despairingly. “So I’m going to tell Sky of the Night that Skypelt needs to retire to the elder’s den early.” Tigerheart nodded his head, rage burning inside of him. Thanks to the battle with Rainbow Tribe, Star Tribe had lost a great warrior. Swiftfoot’s eyes were filled with grief for her mother’s fading vision and hurried away. That gave Tigerheart a thought. “I think I’ll go check on Shinningnight.” he muttered to himself as he grabbed mouse bile. Tigerheart crossed the clearing to the elders den just as Meteorflare and Asteroidleap trotted past him with a wad of moss in their jaws. Tigerheart hurried in the den to find Shinningnight staring up at the sky. Even if Cloudysun’s death had been a season ago, Shinningnight was still grieving for her dead den mate. Tigerheart dipped his head in greeting at the elderly she-cat and started to check her for ticks. He heard Shinningnight sigh in relief as a humongous tick dropped to the ground. After Tigerheart had washed his paws in the lake, Tigerheart went to fetch a plump mouse for Shinningnight as well as for Swiftfoot. “Oh why thank you Tigerheart!” meowed Swiftfoot in delight as Tigerheart gave her a plump vole. “I also gave one to Shinningnight but she didn’t touch it.” explained Tigerheart. “I guess she’s still grieving over Cloudysun.” “Aren’t we all?” meowed Swiftfoot as her eyes clouded with grief. All of a sudden her eyes cleared. “I almost forgot to tell you that Sky of the Night agreed that Skypelt will be joining Shinningnight in the elders den.” Before Tigerheart could reply, Sky of the Night called a tribe meeting. As Tigerheart padded out of the healing den, he could see Sky of the Night’s pitch black pelt shine in the setting horizon. “I have called you here because it is time to choose cats to go to Peace Night; Halfmoon, Tigerheart, Asteroidleap, Starynight, Risingspirit, Moonshift, Duskpelt, and Darkmoon shall come with me.” meowed Sky of the Night. “Why isn’t Swiftfoot going?” asked Wintersky. Mutters of agreement rose among the listening cats. “Silence!” yowled Sky of the Night. “Swiftfoot says she must stay and watch over Skypelt. And remember, I don’t want anyone to tell any other tribe cats about the battle with Rainbow Tribe. I will announce it myself and nobody is to talk about why Swiftfoot is not coming to the Peace Night and that Duskfur and Dusttail are still missing. Got it? Star Tribe, move out!” Tigerheart stayed next to Halfmoon as they neared the Peace Night place. As they entered, Sky of the Night shot every cat a warning glance and all of Star Tribe started to talk amongst the other tribes except for Rainbow Tribe

Chapter 4
Tigerheart barely mingled with any of the other tribe cats. All of a sudden he saw his best friend, Sonicboom. “Hey Sonicboom!” greeted Tigerheart. Sonicboom turned around. “Oh hi Tigerheart!” she exclaimed. The in a more secretive tone she meowed; “I hope we find a solution for all the fires soon because it killed one of our elders, Fogwater.” Tigerheart felt her sorrow reflect off his own. “We’ve had the same problem.” admitted Tigerheart lowering his head. “One of our elders, Cloudysun died from a fire.” Before the friends could say anymore, the leaders yowled for Peace Night to take place. “Everything is well in Winter Tribe. Sadly, Willowsleet has joined Sky Tribe because of a fire.” reported Fur of Crystals as all of Winter Tribe bowed their heads. “Everything is well in Tornado Tribe but just like Winter Tribe we have lost one of our elders to the fire. Fogwater will never be forgotten.” finished Fur in the Gorse. Everything is well in Swift Tribe.” meowed an unfamiliar voice. Tigerheart looked at the leader in shock to see Pelt of Honey had been replaced by Weaslefur; her deputy! “Where is Pelt of Honey?” asked Sky of the Night. “Pelt of Honey had to go to Sky Tribe a moon ago.” explained Weaslefur. “I am the new leader of Swift Tribe and my name is now Weasle Fur. Shrewfern is the new deputy of Swift Tribe.” mutters of congratulations rang around the clearing. “Everything is well in Rainbow Tribe.” reported Tail of Cinder. “Every cat is strong and can take on any warrior.” Yowls of triumph filled the air as Star Tribe looked at Rainbow Tribe with a mocking glare. “Everything is well in Star Tribe. Cloudysun has died from a fire. Also, Skypelt is retiring to the elders den early due to failing sight but otherwise, everything is great in Star Tribe. We have also won a battle over territory with Rainbow Tribe.” finished Sky of the Night looking at her cats proudly. Yowls of triumph filled the air once more. Tail of Cinder bared her teeth but said nothing. “Why isn’t Swiftfoot at Peace Night?” yowled a cat from Rainbow Tribe. “Yes.” agreed Tail of Cinder with a smirk on her face. “Why isn’t Swiftfoot here?” Sky of the Night looked at the Rainbow Tribe leader calmly. “Swiftfoot has her reasons for staying camp.” meowed the pitch black she-cat casually. Tail of Cinder snorted disbelievingly but said no more. And just like that, Peace Night was over.

Chapter 5
Duskfur trotted excitedly into Star Tribe territory. It was finally sun high and the four cats had just arrived back into Star Tribe’s territory. “Wow.” exclaimed Hitch. “Look at all this undergrowth, boulders, and short and tall trees. Is this how every tribe lives.” Duskfur shook his head. “No. The tribes have different landscapes.” “Halt!” commanded a voice. Duskfur sighed in relief as he saw Asteroidleap, Starynight, and Wintersky. “Dusttail?” meowed Asteroidleap. “Duskfur? Is that you?” Dusttail nodded his head. “Yes.” “Oh thank Sky Tribe you guys are ok!” meowed Asteroidleap.

“Welcome back.” meowed Sky of the Night after Dusttail and Duskfur had finished telling the story. “But we still don’t get why you left and why you brought these two.” exclaimed Sky of the Night as Breezetail started to lick Duskfur and Dusttail furiously. Duskfur walked away from Breezetail. “We can’t say.” he meowed bravely. The whole clearing was silent. “Can you at least tell me?” she asked. Duskfur and Dusttail nodded and signaled for Hitch and Rose to follow them. “So what is this all about?” asked Sky of the Night once they came in her den. Dusttail quickly explained. At the end, Sky of the Night just nodded her head in understanding. “So this relates to Tigerheart’s quest.” she exclaimed deep in thought. Dusttail nodded. “Yes.” “Well then, maybe we should ask Rose and Hitch if they would like to be part of the tribe since Sky Tribe has asked for them.” meowed Sky of the Night padding out of her den. “Halfmoon!” meowed Sky of the Night. “I need you to get me Rose and Hitch.” “W-w-why are we in here?” stammered Hitch in a bit of a scared tone. “Do not worry Rose and Hitch. I just want to give you an offer.” explained Sky of the Night.  “Would you like to be part of the tribe; become a warrior, hunt for prey, fight for the tribe and much more?” continued Sky of the Night. Both kittypets looked at her excitedly.  “It’s a great offer. Dusttail and Duskfur told us about tribe life and how great it is. They even gave us rabbit. We loved it!” meowed Rose. “But Rose.” objected Hitch. “The offer is amazing but what about our twolegs? We can’t just leave them behind.” Rose looked disappointed. “I know Hitch but I would like to follow in Halfheart’s steps; warrior steps not as a kittypet.” explained Rose. Hitch looked at Sky of the Night pleadingly. “Isn’t there anyway we could stay in Star tribe the while day but then return to our twoleg companions at night?” Sky of the Night shook her head. “It is not in the code. I’m sorry. But you can stay here for tonight and you can decide if you want to stay or stay as a kittypet tomorrow.” meowed Sky of the Night. “Maybe there is a way.” exclaimed Duskfur aloud. All four cats looked at him curiously. “Since tonight the healing cat go to the River of our Ancestors, couldn’t Tigerheart and Swiftfoot ask Sky Tribe if it could be possible?” Sky of the Night looked at him thoughtfully. “It might actually work.” she exclaimed. “Now how about you four go get some sleep and I’ll fetch Swiftfoot and Tigerheart to tell them the plan. Ok?” The four cats left the leader’s den and headed down to the apprentice den. “Where could we sleep?” asked Rose. “You two should sleep in the apprentice den with us since you aren’t warriors.” explained Dusttail. “Come on.”

Chapter 6
Tigerheart waited for his mentor, Swiftfoot to finish talking to Skypelt. Tigerheart and Swiftfoot had just finished talking to Sky of the Night about Rose and Hitch. Sky of the Night said that Rose and Hitch would like to not abandon their twolegs but she said that they wanted to become warriors and follow in Halfheart’s steps. Tigerheart was a bit confused on how they were supposed to ask Sky Tribe to agree on the idea. “Are you ready to go?” asked Swiftfoot padding out of the healing den in exhaustion. Tigerheart nodded his head as they raced out of camp and up the steep hill. The rest of the healing cats were already waiting for them at the hill. “Hey Tigerheart!” greeted Sonicboom dipping her head in greeting. “Anything new lately? Any new dreams?” Tigerheart shook his head. “No more prophecies.” he replied. “But we are trying to convince Sky Tribe to let us have kittypets or rouges as warriors.” Sonicboom looked at him in surprise. “Why do you want that you stupid furball?” she asked. Tigerheart sighed. “Do you remember when we had that dream with all the chosen cats to fight off the fires?” he asked. Sonicboom nodded her head. “Well, remember when Halfheart said that she had two friends that might help us with destroying the fires?” he continued. Sonicboom opened her eyes wide until they were as round as the moon. “No way!” she exclaimed. “You found them?!” “Duskfur and Dusttail did.” corrected Tigerheart. “Halfheart chose them to find the two kittypets.” “That’s great!” meowed Sonicboom. “But then why do you want to ask Sky Tribe for permission to keep two kittypets in camp and make them warriors?” asked Sonicboom. “Because Rose and Hitch…” his voice trailed on. “It’s kind of complicated to say but…” “It’s ok. I know what you mean.” meowed Sonicboom. “Are Rose and Hitch the names of the two kittypets?” Tigerheart nodded his head. “Yes. Plus, if we do convince Sky Tribe that these two kittypets can stay, then they could give us even more information.” explained Tigerheart. There was silence between the two friends. “I’ll help you convince Sky Tribe.” meowed Sonicboom determination showing in her ice blue eyes that shimmered in the stars. Tigerheart purred in delight. He was lucky to have such a great friend. “Thanks. I’ll need all the support I can get.” he meowed. “Is it just you and me that are trying to convince them?” she asked. “Swiftfoot is also helping.” answered Tigerheart as he stopped in front of the glistening, ice cold water. “This is it.” he murmured to himself as his fur tingled with excitement and nervousness.

Tigerheart gasped as he awoke beside Sonicboom. “W-w-w-where’s Swiftfoot?” asked Tigerheart shaking his tabby pelt as he looked at Sonicboom. Before his best friend could reply, Swiftfoot appeared. “Ok. Are you ready to go Tiger…” Swiftfoot stopped as she saw Sonicboom. “What is she doing here?” asked Swiftfoot calmly. “I’m helping you guys convince Sky Tribe.” explained Sonicboom shooting a challenging stare at Swiftfoot as if to argue. Swiftfoot nodded her head and flicked for them to follow her. “Where do we find who we are looking for?” asked Tigerheart. Swiftfoot shook her head. “I don’t know but I know someone that might be able to help. I’ve met the she-cat once.” explained Swiftfoot. Tigerheart and Sonicboom looked at each other but said nothing and followed. Soon enough, Swiftfoot found the cat she was looking for. “Starshine!” greeted Swiftfoot walking up to the startled she-cat. “Swiftfoot is that you? By Sky Tribe it is! But what are you doing here with Sonicboom and Tigerheart?” she asked suspiciously. Swiftfoot started to explain. “I see.” meowed Starshine at the end. “I’ll go get the cats you are looking for.” meowed Starshine with a gulp. It felt like forever to Tigerheart but finally, six starry shapes appeared. “You have asked to see us?” meowed a beautiful tortoiseshell and white she-cat that looked like she was from the ancient times. “W-w-w-who are you?” stammered Sonicboom before Swiftfoot could speak. The six starry figures looked at her with welcoming eyes. “I am Star.” replied the tortoiseshell and white she-cat. “I was the very first leader of Star Tribe. And this is Tornado, Winter, Rainbow, Swift and Sky.” The three healing cats looked at the six leaders in awe. “S-s-s-so you were all the very first leaders of the five tribes?” stammered Swiftfoot in astonishment. Tigerheart looked more closely at a ghostly white she-cat with blue eyes. “I don’t mean to be rude but she doesn’t look like she used to be in one of the tribes.” murmured Tigerheart to the five great leaders. There was an amused purr in the white she-cat’s throat as she looked at him. “That is because I am not. I was born in the sky so these five called this place Sky Tribe; after my own name.” explained Sky. “So why had you come to see us?” interrupted Tornado.

Chapter 7
Tigerheart nodded his head to Sonicboom in fair well and then went back into his own territory with Swiftfoot. The talk with the six ancient cats went great and they had added a new rule of the code; every tribe is allowed two daylight warriors. Daylight warriors are kittypets that want to become a warrior but want to stay with their twolegs. They are warriors during the day but at night they go home to their twolegs. The six ancient cats had then brought the other healing cats to spread the news to their own tribe.

Tigerheart padded into camp to see that the dawn patrol had already left and Sky of the Night was pacing around nervously. “Come on Tigerheart; we have to go and talk to Sky of the Night about the new addition to the code.” meowed Swiftfoot. Tigerheart nodded but before he could go anywhere, a tail tapped his shoulder. Tigerheart turned around to see Skypelt looking directly at him with blind eyes as if she could still see. Behind her, Shinningnight was helping Skypelt find her way around camp. “Swiftfoot told me to try and help her “feel” her way around came.” explained Shinningnight as they walked past him. “Hey Tigerheart!” greeted Dusttail coming up. Tigerheart nodded his head in greeting as Duskfur came up to them. “Listen,” sighed Tigerheart. “I want to tell you what happened at the River of our Ancestors.”

“No way!” meowed Duskfur in astonishment after Tigerheart finished explaining. “There is a new rule added to the code?!” “I know I believe you but this sounds like a bunch of fox dung to me.” growled Dusttail. “Well it isn’t.” snapped Tigerheart. Just then, Sky of the Night padded out of her den with Halfmoon and Swiftfoot. Tigerheart met Swiftfoot’s eyes and went up the leader’s rock leaving his friends to stare at their leader as she called a tribe meeting. “Now that we are all gathered,” started Sky of the Night as lastly Snowpetal came out of the to-be-mothers den with Weather and Icy. Tigerheart eyed the kits closely; they had smooth, shiny fur. Sky of the Night broke Tigerheart out of his thoughts. “Last night, when Swiftfoot and Tigerheart went to the River of our Ancestors, they had asked Sky Tribe if we can keep Rose and Hitch during the day and if they can stay with their twolegs at night.” continued Sky of the Night looking down at Star Tribe with an ice blue stare. “Anyway, Swiftfoot and Tigerheart came back with a great answer. Sky Tribe has accepted the two kittypets and has declared that a new rule has been added to the code.” Yowls of outrage and misunderstanding rang around the clearing. “What about the rule no kittypets are welcome to tribe life?!” spat Wintersky furiously. “Does that rule in the code no longer exist?” Tigerheart say Rose and Hitch flattening themselves to the ground.

Chapter 8
Dusttail stared at everyone in shock. He knew they were right but weren’t they thankful they would have two more warriors added to Star Tribe? “Silence!” cried Sky of the Night furiously. The clearing went silent. “Don’t you see?” she meowed. “We would have two extra warriors added to the tribe which will make us stronger.” Murmurs of agreement started to be heard. “But how do we know we can trust them?” challenged Shinningnight. “Rose and Hitch were friends of Halfheart, which means they have good hearts and will protect Star Tribe till the end of time.” meowed Swiftfoot calmly. Shinningnight let out a grunt but said no more. “Besides,” meowed Halfmoon. “Sky Tribe had said it is part of the code now.” “What does the rule say?” asked Dawnflower. “Rose and Hitch will be called daylight warriors, which means they are warriors during daylight and kittypets at night. Sky Tribe told me and Swiftfoot that every tribe is only allowed two daylight warriors.” explained Tigerheart. The clearing was silent and soon yowls of acceptation rang around the clearing once more. “Now that we all agree,” meowed Risingspirit. “Are they going to have proper names in tribe life?” Murmurs of agreement started to appear. Sky of the Night nodded. “They will have a proper naming ceremony.” replied the she-cat. “Will they get mentors?” asked Starynight. “No.” answered Sky of the Night. “They are old enough to be warriors but they will train with apprentices in the training hollow.” meowed Sky of the Night. “Now, will Hitch please step up to the front.” Dusttail say Hitch twitch his tail in excitement as he padded to the front of all the cats to face them. “Hitch, do you wish to train in the ways of a warrior?” prompted Sky of the Night.  Hitch nodded his head. “I do.” “Then by the powers of Sky Tribe, Hitch, you will now be known as Hitchclaw; daylight warrior of Star Tribe in training.” meowed Sky of the Night coming down the leader’s rock to touch noses with Hitchclaw as the cries of congratulations died down. Hitchclaw went back into the crowd to sit beside Rose. “Rose, will you please step up to the front.” continued Sky of the Night looking at the she-cat softly. “Do you wish to train in the ways of a warrior?” “I do.” meowed Rose her whole body quivering in excitement. “Then by the powers of Sky Tribe, Rose, you will now be known as Roseheart; a daylight warrior in training of Star Tribe.” finished Sky of the Night as she did the same with Hitchclaw. When the yowls of congratulations had died down once more, Sky of the Night started to speak. “Dusttail step up to the front please.” meowed Sky of the Night. Dusttail froze at the sound of his name. Was it already time to become a warrior, he thought. “Come on you stupid furball.” hissed Asteroidleap into his ear as she nudged him towards the front. Dusttail slowly padded to the front of his tribe. “Dusttail, your mentor has told me you have completed your assignment and are ready to become a warrior. Is this true?” asked Sky of the Night. “I think Dusttail will make a fine warrior; just like his mother.” answered Starynight looking at Dusttail with pride. “Then by the powers of Sky Tribe, Dusty Tail, you are now a full warrior of Star Tribe.” finished Sky of the Night as everyone chanted his name. Dusttail looked at Duskfur and Tigerheart happily

Chapter 9
Duskfur looked at Dusttail in pride. Today, Asteroidleap, Dusttail, and Duskfur had all been made warriors. The only reason Asteroidleap had been made a warrior so early is because she and Dusttail had rescued Leopardpath from the fire. But Duskfur didn’t care. But the meeting wasn’t over yet. “And now,” started Sky of the Night. “We have two new apprentices to welcome to the tribe.” Icy and Weather looked at each other excitedly as they trotted up in front of every cat. “Weather, do you wish to train in the ways of a warrior?” prompted Sky of the Night. “I do.” meowed Weather in a barely visible voice. Duskfur saw Snowpetal and Wintersky look at their kits in pride. “Then by the powers of our ancestors, Stormy Weather, you will now be known as Weatherstorm, warrior apprentice of Star Tribe. May the skies be with you, Weatherstorm.” cried Sky of the Night as the yowls died down. “Weatherstorm’s mentor will be, Dusttail.” Duskfur looked at Dusttail in shock as the clearing went silent. “W-w-w-what?!” he stammered. “B-b-b-but I’m just an inexperienced warrior.” “He’s right.” agreed Midnightshadow. “Why chose him? Why not a more experienced warrior?” “Because Dusttail shows loyalty and determination to learn and teach.” meowed Sky of the Night. Duskfur saw Dusttail walk up to his apprentice and touch noses with her. “Now, will Icy please step up to the front.” continued the leader before anyone could argue. “Icy, do you wish to train in the ways of a warrior?” “I do.” meowed Icy. “Then by the powers of Sky Tribe, Ice of Wind, you will now be known as Icywind, apprentice of Star Tribe.” finished Sky of the Night. “Your mentor will be Risingspirit.” Risingspirit walked up to the front and gently touched noses with Icywind as his tail swished back and forth in triumph. “Since it is still daylight, I would like Roseheart and Hitchclaw to train with Duskfur and Fireeclipse.” meowed Sky of the Night. “You may leave as soon as possible. The rest of you; stay here. There are plenty of things to do.” “I’m glad you’re training us Duskfur.” admitted Hitchclaw coming up. Duskfur twitched his ear in surprise by the tom’s gentle tone. “W-w-w-well um, uh; how about we start training.” replied Duskfur. “This is the training hollow where apprentice like me train in the ways of a warrior; to hunt and fight.” explained Fireeclipse as they entered the large clearing. “Wow!” exclaimed Roseheart. “What technique are we going to learn first?” Duskfur thought for a moment. What would they learn first? What had his mentor done to him when they first started training? Then it hit him. “First, just to prove your skills and how much you already know, we’ll each take on one of you.” answered Duskfur. Fireeclipse looked at him. “Good idea Duskfur; even if you were just made a warrior.” teased Fireeclipse playfully. “Now let’s get started.” instructed Duskfur. “Roseheart will take on Fireeclipse and Hitchclaw, you’ll take on me.” The two daylight warriors nodded their heads in excitement as they faced their opponent. “Ready, set go!” yowled Duskfur as he bowled into Hitchclaw. The tom yelped but didn’t back down. Duskfur pretended to flee as Hitchclaw chased him in sheathed claws. Duskfur sped forward and jumped onto a tree and landed a flip on top of Hitchclaw. Hitchclaw yowled in surprise and struggled to get up from Duskfur’s grasp. Duskfur then easily pinned the tom down. “I win.” he meowed panting as he let Hitchclaw up. “You were quite a fighter there. You stood your ground.” praised Duskfur. “But, Hitchclaw, you need to be quieter and more balanced to take down your enemy. Plus, you need to learn some skills.” “Same with Roseheart.” agreed Fireeclipse as he came up with Roseheart. All of a sudden a rustling nose behind them made Duskfur jump. Duskfur looked embarrassed as he saw it was only Dusttail, Weatherstorm and Asteroidleap as they showed the young apprentice around. “This is the training hollow or area. This is where you will learn to hunt and fight.” explained Dusttail before he looked up to see Duskfur, Fireeclipse, Roseheart and Hitchclaw. “Oh hey!” greeted Dusttail. “Sky of the Night told us to tell you that she wants Roseheart and Hitchclaw to come on a border patrol with them to check out Roaring Water and Protecting Tree.” explained Asteroidleap. Duskfur nodded. “We’ll bring them back to camp.” offered Duskfur racing off with Fireeclipse, Roseheart, and Hitchclaw.

Chapter 10
Tigerheart slumped in his bed for a nap. He had worked all morning and when he finally had the time to go to sleep, he took it.

He awoke in a forest. He looked around to see Cracklefur, Sonicboom, Frostflower, Clearsnow, Blackheart, Greenpoppy, Rabbitfoot, and Squirreltail all waking up. Beside him lay Starflight. Tigerheart looked at them in shock. These were all the chosen cats from the first meeting! “W-w-w-what are we doing here?” asked Greenpoppy opening her eyes in shock. All of a sudden the starry shapes of Heatherbracken, Spottedsong, Brightlight, Mistypool, and Shudderpelt appeared in front of them. “Long time no see.” muttered Starflight looking at the five starry shapes. “Welcome back to your quest.” greeted Shudderpelt. “It is time for you to begin.” We will lead you to your camp close to the border. Follow us.” explained Heatherbracken. The ten cats glanced excited looks between them as they followed in pairs. “Here we are.” whispered Spottedsong pointing her tail at tall grass. Tigerheart looked at it in confusion. Where is the camp, he thought. All the other cats seemed to be confused as well. The five starry cats had a satisfied look on their faces. “The camp must be hidden so well.” whispered Brightlight. “The camp is right in front of you. Follow me inside.” Tigerheart followed cautiously. All of a sudden Tigerheart could make out the shape of a well hidden camp in the dense undergrowth next to a not so peaceful looking dark forest. “Follow me inside.” whispered Brightlight. The ten cats followed Brightlight into a bright, warm, and welcoming looking camp. “This is where you will be staying while you look for what is causing these fires.” meowed Brightlight. “Why are you whispering?” asked Blackheart. “Because since we are so close to the border of the Eerie Forest, we must be very quiet.” explained Brightlight in a hushed voice. “The Eerie Forest?” repeated Tigerheart. “Yes. The Eerie Forest. The Eerie Forest is a dangerous forest where something terrible lives. That is why there was a Peace Ring that separated us so they could never come to our side but somehow, the Peace Ring broke and now these things that live on that side took it as a threat so now they want to have war.” whispered Brightlight. “But why can’t Sky Tribe just defeat them or something?” asked Starflight. “Because for some reason ghosts like me can’t fight off the evils as we call them but only living cats can defeat them.” explained Brightlight. “But what do we have to do?” asked Frostflower. “You must patrol the border of the Erie Forest and look for anything that might help. There is lots of prey around here too since we never hunt here so you can us the prey to feed on and maybe try to lure one out of its territory.” explained Brightlight. “Why would we want to do that?” spat Rabbitfoot. “Many secrets will be revealed if you do.” meowed Brightlight in a wise healing cat voice. “Then we’ll do it.” concluded Tigerheart. Brightlight looked at him gratefully and then she vanished. “Ok now what should we do?” meowed Blackheart. “Some of us could go on a patrol.” suggested Clearsnow. “And some more cats could go hunting.” exclaimed Cracklefur. “Ok then.” meowed Blackheart. “So who wants to go hunting, who wants to go patrolling and who wants to stay in camp. “I’ll go hunting.” volunteered Starflight. “Me too!” agreed Squirreltail. “Me three!” meowed Clearsnow. “I’ll go on the border patrol.” offered Rabbitfoot. “So will I.” Greenpoppy chimed in. “I’d like to go too!” exclaimed Frostflower. “Me fourth.” agreed Cracklefur. “Then I guess we’ll stay here.” meowed Blackheart. Tigerheart sighed as he looked around. Sonicboom, Blackheart and him were the only ones left to stay in the camp. “So Tigerheart,” started Blackheart unexpectedly. “I here you’re Swiftfoot’s apprentice?” Tigerheart looked at him puzzled. “Yes. I’ve been her apprentice for four seasons.” he replied. “So how is Swiftfoot?” continued Blackheart awkwardly. Tigerheart and Sonicboom looked at each other in confusion. “Err…I meant how is she treating you? Is she a good mentor?” meowed Blackheart quickly looking embarrassed. “S-s-s-she’s a great mentor. The best mentor any cat could get.” answered Tigerheart suspiciously. Tigerheart noticed that Blackheart was letting out a small, quiet purr. “That’s great news.” murmured Blackheart hardly able to speak because he was purring. Tigerheart looked back at Sonicboom who was looking at Blackheart curiously. “Well!” meowed Blackheart. “I’m going to go look around camp.” “What was that all about?” whispered Sonicboom as soon as Blackheart was out of earshot. Tigerheart shook his head; his green gaze still fixed on Blackheart. “I don’t know.” “Do you think that Blackheart secretly likes Swiftfoot?” she asked. Tigerheart froze and looked at her in alarm. “That could be it. What if my mentor was breaking the healing cat code?!” panicked Tigerheart. “Whoa Tigerheart! Calm down!” meowed Sonicboom putting her tail on his shoulder. “I didn’t say it was true. I said it could be true.”

Chapter 11
Tigerheart looked at the prey hungrily. “Eat up Tigerheart.” instructed Sonicboom. “We need to save all our energy for whatever comes our way.” Tigerheart nodded and picked out a fluffy rabbit and gulped it down hungrily. “Now what?” he asked once everyone was finished their prey. Before anyone could reply, they heard a loud growl outside of the camp. Every cat silently crawled up to the camp entrance. “Two of us should go see what it is.” whispered Blackheart. “I’ll go.” replied Tigerheart and Sonicboom at the same time. Blackheart nodded his head. “Go. We’ve got your back.” Tigerheart signaled Sonicboom to follow. Tigerheart’s eyes filled with horror on what he saw next. On the border of the Eerie Forest stood a horrifying black shadow with blood red eyes. It’s jaws were dripping with drool. “I-I-Is that an Evil?” squeaked Sonicboom in a scared voice. “Because it looks like a vicious dog spirit.” Tigerheart couldn’t reply. The horror in front of him was walking into Sky Tribe’s territory. All of a sudden a terrible pain shot through him. He yowled in pain as it took over his body. Was the spirit dog attacking him? No. It was staring at him in surprise. Tigerheart shut his eyes in pain as he slumped to the ground with a sickening thump.  His head was pounding. Tigerheart opened his eyes and shrieked in agony as he saw Star Tribe’s camp but instead of it being peaceful, a small fire erupted in the middle of the camp. He saw Shinningnight running out of camp with every other cat behind her as they evacuated. Tigerheart yowled again as the pain took over his body once more. Tigerheart snapped his eyes open to find himself laying on the grass in Sky Tribe as everyone stared at him in horror and shock. “Tigerheart! Oh thank Sky Tribe you’re awake!” wailed Sonicboom happily. “What happened to you?” asked Rabbitfoot looking down on the apprentice. “Sonicboom said you yowled in pain and then you had several muscle spasms and then you blacked out.” Tigerheart jumped up and shook his tabby pelt. “I-I-I-I had a vision.” stammered Tigerheart. “As soon as that spirit dog crossed onto Sky Tribe’s side; I had a vision.” “What was it about?” asked Starflight curiously. “I was in Star Tribe’s camp. All of a sudden a fire erupted out of nowhere.” he explained. “That’s all.” “So you’re telling me that when that thing crossed into Sky Tribe’s territory that you got a vision of a fire erupting in Star Tribe’s camp?” meowed Frostflower in astonishment. “It is true.” meowed a voice coming up from behind. All the cats spun around to see Heatherbracken bowing her head. “What Tigerheart says is true. Spottedsong just told me that a fire has erupted in Star Tribe’s camp.” Tigerheart looked at her in shock. “So that means whenever an Evil steps across the border, a fire starts in one of the five territories?” he asked. “Yes. Thank you Tigerheart. Now we know who is causing the fires.” meowed Heatherbracken gratefully. “Wait,” meowed Sonicboom. “So that means the ‘Evils’ are causing the fires? But how?” “When the Evils cross onto our side they create the fires because they want to start a war.” explained Heatherbracken. “Of course!” exclaimed Rabbitfoot. “It all makes sense now! This is why the fires keep appearing.” “So what do we do now?” asked Clearsnow excitedly. “Your task is over. Everything is better. Now that we know what is causing this; we can fight it off.” replied Heatherbracken. Tigerheart looked at them in shock. “What?” growled Squirreltail. “But I thought you said Sky Tribe cats can’t fight off the Evils. Besides, that can’t be all right?” “I’m glad it is. We have a secret weapon to defeat them.” replied Heatherbracken. “Even if our journey is over, can you at least tell us what the secret weapon is?” “It is a secret.” answered Heatherbracken not giving anything away. “Now you may have a pleasant dream because now all the fires will stop.” Tigerheart stared at her in dismay. He knew she was lying. The fires weren’t going to stop coming but he dare not say anything. “Good bye my heroes.” purred Heatherbracken. Tigerheart prepared himself to wake up. “Stay here Tigerheart. I need to tell you something.” whispered a voice in his ear. The tabby tom opened his eyes to see Heatherbracken staring at him with hope in her eyes. As every other cat faded away, Tigerheart silently followed Heatherbracken into a small clearing where Shudderpelt, Spottedsong, Brightlight, and Mistypool were all waiting.

Chapter 12
Tigerheart looked at them mystified. “Why am I here?” he asked. “Tigerheart. As you may have already guessed, the fires are not over. We have called upon four other cats to meet you by the Swift Tribe border; Fern Bush.” explained Spottedsong. “Are you mouse brained?! Fern Bush is between Tornado Tribe and Swift Tribe! How am I supposed to get there unnoticed?” snapped Tigerheart. “You will find a way because you are the ‘tiger’” meowed Brightlight sympathetically. “I am not the ‘tiger’!” spat Tigerheart lashing his tail. “Stop saying that! I am just an ordinary apprentice!” “No you aren’t.” replied Spottedsong coming up to him. Tigerheart took a step back. “Stay back. I am not the ‘tiger’!” he spat. “But you are. You are son of Cometblaze and Midnightshadow and sibling of Fireeclipse right?” asked Mistypool curiously. “Of course I am!” growled Tigerheart. “I was also supposed to have a younger sibling.” Heatherbracken froze. “What?” she asked. “Yes.” snapped Tigerheart agitated. “He was named Tiger; after my name.” All five cats were silent with fear. Tigerheart looked at them puzzled. “H-h-h-how did he…um…” Spottedsong was interrupted by Tigerheart. “Die?” murmured Tigerheart. “Yes.” meowed Shudderpelt slowly. “How did Tiger die?” “He died at birth.” answered Tigerheart glumly. “I-I-I don’t really like to talk about it.” Spottedsong yowled in shock. “He’s not the one!” she wailed. “Now the fires will never stop! The ‘tiger’ died at birth!” “That means this isn’t Cometblaze’s and Midnightshadow’s son!” cried Mistypool. “What do you mean?” growled Tigerheart. All five cats went silent. “I am Cometblaze’s and Midnightshadow’s son.” repeated Tigerheart. Heatherbracken looked at him. “You are no help to us anymore. I’m sorry Tigerheart. You shall not go meet the other cats at Fern Bush. I’m sorry Tigerheart. Good bye.”

Tigerheart jolted awake. He could not believe what just happened. What did they mean he wasn’t the son of Midnightshadow and Cometblaze? Why did they say he was no use to them? Did nothing matter anymore after he had helped them through so much? Tigerheart felt rage starting to boil inside of him. He needed to talk to Swiftfoot, Cometblaze, Midnightshadow, Fireeclipse, Sky of the Night, Duskpelt and Breezetail to see what the five starry cats said was true. Tigerheart started to calm down a bit so he would give nothing away. He found Swiftfoot talking with Skypelt. Tigerheart casually walked up to the two she-cats. “Hi Swiftfoot.” greeted Tigerheart. Swiftfoot looked up. “Why hello Tigerheart.” replied Swiftfoot. Good, thought Tigerheart, she doesn’t seem to notice anything. “Could I talk to you down at the lake?” he asked. Swiftfoot looked at him curiously but just nodded her head. “Great! I’ll see you down there. I have to quickly check something out.” lied Tigerheart padding away. Tigerheart saw Cometblaze padding into the healing den. Must be checking on Midnightshadow, he thought racing over to the den. “Whoa Tigerheart! What’s the rush?” purred Cometblaze. Tigerheart didn’t  even bother saying hi. “I need to talk to you two down by the lake but I need to get something first so I’ll see you both down there!” cried Tigerheart as they padded out of camp. Tigerheart looked around camp for Fireeclipse. “Have you seen Fireeclipse, Risingspirit?” asked Tigerheart padding up to the she-cat. “He’s out training with Cloudwillow in the training area.” replied Risingspirit. “Why?” “Oh I need just need him to help me with something.” explained Tigerheart hoping his lie had worked. Risingspirit nodded her head. “Ok just don’t keep him away from training too long; he needs to keep up with the other apprentices.” Tigerheart raced to the training hollow and found Fireeclipse battling Cloudwillow. Tigerheart watched them impatiently but kept silent till Cloudwillow had pinned Fireeclipse down. “Nice going Fireeclipse. You’re more balanced when you attack.” praised Cloudwillow before she saw Tigerheart. “Hi Cloudwillow. Hi Fireeclipse.” greeted Tigerheart impatiently. “Could I take Fireeclipse back to camp with me to collect herbs?” asked Tigerheart. Tigerheart saw Cloudwillow stare at him in dismay as she opened her mouth to argue but then quickly shut it. “Sure. Why not? You’ve trained hard all morning.” meowed the fluffy gray she-cat simply. Fireeclipse followed Tigerheart in silence. “So what herb are we going to collect?” he finally asked. “We’re not going to collect herbs. We’re going to do something else.” replied Tigerheart sternly. “But you said…” Fireeclipse was cut off by Tigerheart’s flicking tail. “Follow me.” Before Tigerheart could go up the leader’s rock, Breezetail blocked their path. “Now just where do you think you’re going?” she hissed. “I just need to talk to Sky of the Night with Fireeclipse.” explained Tigerheart almost losing his patients. “Could I also talk to you? Meet me down at the lake. Thanks.” Tigerheart didn’t wait for a reply but just pushed past Breezetail and walked up the leader’s rock. Halfmoon was outside the den. Tigerheart nodded his head in greeting and went in with Fireeclipse. “Just sit down and wait.” whispered Tigerheart into the tom’s ear. Then a thought hit his head. “Actually, could you get Duskpelt to meet me down at the lake too?” Fireeclipse nodded his head and headed out of the den. Good, thought Tigerheart, now I can talk to her alone. “Greetings Tigerheart.” welcomed Sky of the Night warmly. “What can I do for you?” “I need to talk to you down at the lake.” replied Tigerheart looking at the she-cat sternly. “And why is that?” asked the black she-cat in surprise. “Only down at the lake will I tell you.” meowed Tigerheart stubbornly. “Ok. But Halfmoon will come with me.” replied the she-cat. Tigerheart was about to object but kept his mouth shut. Maybe, he thought, Halfmoon could give me some answers too. “Lead the way Tigerheart.” ordered Sky of the Night as Halfmoon quickly told everyone that Starynight would be in charge until they got back. As Tigerheart went down to the lake, he hoped that Fireeclipse was also down here with Duskpelt but thankfully he was. “Tigerheart I thought you said we were having a chat.” growled the leader. “Not a family meeting.” “I have called you all down here because there is something I would like to discuss involving all of you.” meowed Tigerheart almost growling. “And what is that?” asked Swiftfoot calmly. Tigerheart spun around to face her. “Swiftfoot, last night, Heatherbracken, Mistypool, Brightlight, Shudderpelt and Spottedsong came to me in my dreams.” started Tigerheart but was cut off by Duskpelt as he let out a sigh at the mention of his mother’s name. “Anyway,” continued Tigerheart calmly. “They said something about me being the ‘tiger’. Do you know anything about that?” Swiftfoot shuffled her paws. “Well?” snapped Tigerheart. “I-I-I’m sorry Tigerheart. I never meant to not tell you about the prophecy it’s just I didn’t think you were ready.” stammered Swiftfoot taken aback by Tigerheart forcefulness. “Liar!” spat Tigerheart. “The only reason you didn’t tell me is because I’m not the real ‘tiger’” The whole clearing went silent. “W-w-w-what?” meowed Swiftfoot in fear. “What do you mean?” “Oh don’t play innocent with me. You knew all along.” snarled Tigerheart. “I’m not even the son of Cometblaze and Midnightshadow!” “W-w-w-what?” stammered Fireeclipse disbelievingly. There was dead silence as Cometblaze spoke up. “Now hold on Tigerheart.” she meowed calmly. “You are our son.” “Liars!” spat Tigerheart. “I’m not your son, Fireeclipse and Tiger are!” Midnightshadow bared his teeth. “Don’t be mouse-brained!” he snapped. “You and Fireeclipse are our only two sons.” Tigerheart looked at Cometblaze to see her lowering her green gaze. His belly lurched. Was it really true? “I’m not your son.” he repeated more calmly. “You guys told me that Fireeclipse and I were supposed to have a younger brother named Tiger but he died at birth. But Sky Tribe told me something different; and Sky Tribe never ever lies.” There was dead silence between the family members. “Oh it’s true.” wailed Cometblaze. “I can’t keep lying. You aren’t our son. You were our foster son but we would’ve loved you the same if you were our real son.” “S-s-s-so we aren’t brothers?” stammered Fireeclipse. “You’re joking right?” “I’m afraid not.” growled Tigerheart as rage boiled inside of him like a volcano about to erupt. “Who are my real parents?” snarled Tigerheart. There was dead silence. “Who are my parents?” repeated Tigerheart. “We cannot tell Tigerheart.” meowed Midnightshadow showing pain in his voice as he spoke. “Could you ever forgive us?” “Forgive you?” meowed Tigerheart. “Forgive you?!” he shrieked. “Never in my entire life would I forgive you for all these lies upon lies about my life!! I never want to ever see you again! All of you. Especially, you Swiftfoot, Cometblaze, and Midnightshadow. Never again.”

Chapter 13
Tigerheart ran back to camp blindly and bumped into his friends, Dusttail and Duskfur. Tigerheart quickly told them everything and then ran into the healing den to sleep everything away. He just found out that Cometblaze and Midnightshadow were not his real parents. Tigerheart felt heartbroken. Swiftfoot had lied to him. Cometblaze and Midnightshadow weren’t his real parents, Sky Tribe said he was useless and he hated himself for finding everything out. Tigerheart drifted off to sleep in a few seconds and woke up in a forest. Tigerheart was too angry and sad to talk to Sky Tribe now so he padded out of the clearing before Spottedsong could talk to him. But before he could move, he heard an unfamiliar voice. “Tigerheart.” the voice whispered. Tigerheart whirled around and fixed his green gaze on a small kit. “I don’t have time for this.” he muttered and turned away from the golden and brown tabby kit. “Don’t leave Tigerheart.” pleaded the kit. “I must tell you something.” Tigerheart whirled around and took a step towards the kit. “Look, I’ve had a stressful morning and I really don’t want to talk to anyone.” “Can I at least tell you my name before you go?” asked the kit as it talked wisely. Tigerheart sighed. He knew the kit was going to leave him alone until he said yes. “Fine.” “My name is, Tiger.” meowed the small kit. Tigerheart froze at the sound of the name. “Y-y-y-your name is, Tiger?” he asked astonished. “Yes.” meowed the kit in an amused voice. “I am son of Cometblaze and Midnightshadow and younger brother of Fireeclipse.” explained the Tiger. “So you’re the one that died at birth.” exclaimed Tigerheart but then looked at him glumly. “Whatever.” he muttered. “I’m not the son of Cometblaze and Midnightshadow anymore.”  “I know that.” meowed the kit sympathetically. “Really?” meowed Tigerheart but then snorted. “What do you care anyway? You’re just a kit.” “I do care, Tigerheart.” meowed Tiger following Tigerheart as he walked away. “And I know you’re still going to go to meet the other cats at Fern Bush a couple seasons from now.” Tigerheart whipped around. “I’m not going to meet them. You probably heard them yourself, I’m no use to them anymore; plus, I’m not the ‘tiger’. You are.” snapped Tigerheart. “I may have been the tiger in that prophecy but I granted you with that role.” explained Tiger calmly. Tigerheart snorted. “Yeah right. Nice try Tiger.” “I am serious.” hissed Tiger. “All of the tribes need you to go there. You are now the tiger. Every cat in Sky Tribe was wrong about you; you were the tiger all along. Now you just need to prove it to them.” Tigerheart turned around slowly, defeat showing his forest green eyes. “How am I supposed to do that? My whole life is falling apart.” wailed Tigerheart despairingly. “You must always have faith Tigerheart. You are a soul like no other. You are the destiny of the tribes. But you do not know that because you do not believe it.” whispered Tiger in a wise voice as if he had been alive for seasons upon seasons. Tigerheart looked at the kit gratefully. “Thank you, Tiger. Thank you for making me believe. I will show them who was wrong and I will go to Fern Bush.” yowled Tigerheart in triumph. “That’s the spirit.” purred Tiger.

Chapter 14
Dusttail couldn’t believe what Tigerheart had just told them. “Maybe we should give him some space till this cools off.” meowed Duskfur in astonishment. “Maybe we should help him out.” suggested Dusttail.  “How do we do that?” objected Duskfur. “Maybe we could keep a watch over certain cats. I’ll keep an eye on Halfmoon and Sky of the Night.” meowed Dusttail. “Why them?” Dusttail’s brother asked. “Remember that conversation I told you about? Well maybe that’s it. I’ll keep an eye on them. How about you, Duskfur?” “I think I should keep an eye on Cometblaze, Midnightshadow, and Swiftfoot.” replied Duskfur deep in thought. “Swiftfoot?” asked Dusttail. “Why Swiftfoot?” “Well, Swiftfoot is a healing cat which means she must know more than she is telling.” explained Duskfur. Dusttail thought for a minute. “That’s a good idea.” admitted Dusttail. “But how about we both keep an eye on Swiftfoot?” Duskfur nodded his head. “Deal.” “Do you think we should have partners to work with us?” asked Dusttail unexpectedly. “Why do you say that?” asked Duskfur. “They could give us an extra paw.” answered Dusttail. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Don’t forget, our ‘partners’ might not be as secretive as we are.” exclaimed Duskfur. Dusttail mumbled in agreement. “So what now?” he meowed. “Do you think we should carry on with what we are doing?” “What do you mean, Dusttail?” asked Duskfur. “Well, maybe I could be the leader of a hunting patrol and take you, Cometblaze, Midnightshadow, and Asteroidleap for a quick hunt for us to question us.” explained Dusttail. “Good idea but maybe it should just be you, me Cometblaze, and Midnightshadow instead of a fifth cat coming with us.” explained Duskfur. Dusttail grunted but said nothing more. “I’ll go ask Sky of the Night if I can lead a patrol.” meowed Dusttail trotting up the leader’s rock. “Why hello Dusttail.” greeted Halfmoon but Dusttail could sense some emotion coming from the deputy. “I’m here to speak with Sky of the Night because I would like to lead a border or hunting patrol.” meowed Dusttail casually. “Oh well Sky of the Night is taking a quick nap so I’ll be taking over and yes you may Dusttail.” explained Halfmoon. Dusttail nodded his head and took a quick peek inside the leader’s den when Halfmoon wasn’t looking. The pale brown tom’s light blue eyes opened wide in shock. Halfmoon had lied to him; Sky of the Night was wide awake and pacing around nervously in her den! Dusttail raced down the leader’s rock to Duskfur who was waiting patiently. “So?” asked Duskfur as his brother came up. “Halfmoon said that Sky of the Night was asleep but he said I can still lead a border patrol.” explained Dusttail. “But before I left, I took a quick peek inside the leader’s den and Sky of the Night was awake and pacing around nervously.” “That’s strange.” meowed Duskfur. “The deputy would never lie. Unless, it has something to do with Tigerheart’s problem.” exclaimed Duskfur. “Maybe.” agreed Dusttail. “But for now let’s focus on the patrol.” “Oh and that’s another thing.” murmured Duskfur. “I just saw Midnightshadow limping into the healing den; Risingspirit says that he sprained it while talking with Tigerheart down by the lake.” “Well then who else could come with us?” asked Dusttail impatiently. “Cometblaze could just come with us. Maybe we could also invite Breezetail. She was at Tigerheart’s meeting right?” suggested Duskfur. “That could work. I’ll go get Breezetail and you can go get Cometblaze.” instructed Dusttail racing off to the to-be-mothers den.

After they had gathered Cometblaze and Breezetail to come with them on the border patrol, the four cats took off. “Which border are we going to patrol?” asked Breezetail. Dusttail thought for a minute. “How about the Rainbow Tribe border, Roaring Water?” suggested Dusttail as he looked at his mother. Breezetail shrugged her shoulders. “Why not?” As they made their way over to the border, Dusttail decided to ask some questions. “So how is Tigerheart doing?” asked Dusttail casually. Cometblaze looked at him in fear. “W-w-w-what do you mean?” she asked. “Well, ever since this morning Tigerheart has been very moody.” continued Dusttail. “W-w-well time is ruff for him right now.” stammered Cometblaze. “With all the fires and stuff…” “That’s enough Dusttail!” snapped Breezetail looking at the sad Cometblaze. Dusttail looked at her in surprise. “Why? All I did was ask two questions.” he objected. “Well are you trying to make her feel bad?” snapped Breezetail. “About what?” snarled Dusttail. “All I did was ask a question about my friend! Is that such a big deal? Do you want me not to be friends with Tigerheart? Well you can’t make me.” “That’s enough.” growled Duskfur speaking up for the first time. “We don’t need to start a fight while we are on patrol.”

Chapter 15
Duskfur jumped out of the way as Weatherstorm tumbled onto the ground in front of him. “Sorry Duskfur.” apologized Weatherstorm as her eyes sparkled.  After the patrol with Cometblaze and Breezetail, Duskfur had decided to watch Dusttail train his apprentice. “I win!” purred Moonshift as he pinned her down. Duskfur let out a purr of amusement. Duskfur knew that the experienced apprentice liked Weatherstorm. Duskfur looked at Weatherstorm in surprise as she twitched her whiskers in disgust at Moonshift. “Good work Weatherstorm.” interrupted Dusttail. “You too Moonshift.” praised Cometblaze. “Weatherstorm you and I are going to go hunting without Moonshift and Cometblaze. Ok?” explained Dusttail. “Ok.” meowed Weatherstorm in relief. “See you later, Weatherstorm.” meowed Moonshift. “I guess.” muttered Weatherstorm. Duskfur was about to leave before Dusttail padded up to him. “You should see how grateful Weatherstorm is whenever we can hunt alone without Moonshift.” purred Dusttail. “What do you mean?” asked Duskfur. “Well you’ve probably already seen; Moonshift is in love with Weatherstorm but Weatherstorm doesn’t like Moonshift, not even as a friend! So she’s happy to get away from him. I’m trying everything I can so that she doesn’t have to train with him but it’s always so hard because Moonshift always asks.” Duskfur couldn’t help letting out a purr of amusement himself. “Well I got to go hunting with Weatherstorm now.” replied Dusttail racing off. “See you later.” Duskfur sighed and padded back to camp alone. What could I do, he thought to himself as he entered camp. Just then, Duskfur looked up at the sky to see it was growing darker and darker by the heartbeat. “I might as well go to sleep.” suggested Duskfur heading into the warriors den and settling down for a good night’s rest.

Chapter 16
Tigerheart woke up as the sun blinded him in the healing den. Tigerheart padded stiffly out of the den and stretched his legs with a massive arch. Tigerheart looked around in surprise, the only cats awake were the ones that were called out for the first patrol of the morning. Tigerheart padded around camp as he felt the morning dew under his paws. It was early spring once again. “Come on Weatherstorm!” he heard Icywind say as he padded past the apprentice den. “Don’t you want to find out where Dusttail and Duskfur went when they found Roseheart and Hitchclaw?” Tigerheart froze and watched the apprentices from the kill pile. “Ok.” he heard Weatherstorm agree. I must follow them, he thought as they padded out of camp unnoticed. Tigerheart raced after them and skidded to a halt as he saw them in the distance. Tigerheart crouched down so they couldn’t see him as he followed them more silently and slowly. Tigerheart had a sickening feeling as the two young apprentices halted in front of the Swift Tribe border. As they stepped over, Tigerheart sent a silent prayer of safety to Sky Tribe to keep them from being spotted as he crossed into Swift Tribe territory. “Here’s the log that they were talking about.” whispered Icywind racing over to a fallen over tree. Tigerheart sighed. Now that the two apprentices had found the tree, they would surely turn around and go back. But instead of that, Icywind signaled for Weatherstorm to follow him out of the five tribes’ territories. Just before Tigerheart was going to jump out and stop them, a rustling noise made the apprentices jump. “Where do you think you two are going?” meowed a voice. Tigerheart looked at a white she-cat with a black spot around one eye. Jadestep, he thought. What is she doing here? “N-n-n-n-nothing of your business.” stammered Weatherstorm. “What are you doing here?” “I’m here to go to the River of our Ancestors.” explained Jadestep calmly. “Why?” challenged Icywind baring his teeth. “I need to find away that’ll make the fires stop. Too many deaths have occurred.” explained Jadestep desperately. “How do we know we can trust you?” snapped Icywind lashing his tail. Tigerheart’s belly lurched as he saw Icywind ready to spring. “Just what do you think you are doing Icywind?” snarled a voice. Tigerheart looked in the direction of the voice. “Hitchclaw?” stammered Icywind. “S-s-s-she was trespassing on Swift Tribe territory.” “Well so are you.” retorted Hitchclaw coming down the hill from twoleg place from a good night’s sleep. “Are you ok?” Tigerheart heard him whisper to Jadestep. “Did they hurt you?” Tigerheart looked at Hitchclaw in confusion; was he secretly meeting Jadestep every night? “I’m fine.” purred Jadestep affectionately rubbing her cheek against his. “You love her don’t you?” spat Weatherstorm. “Traitor! You betrayed the code and Star Tribe’s trust.” “No I didn’t.” meowed Hitchclaw lashing his tail in agitation. “Oh yeah then explain her and how affectionate you two are being to each other.” sneered Icywind. Tigerheart would’ve slashed the apprentice’s ear away for sneering but Hitchclaw just looked at them in rage. “How dare you say that.” spat Hitchclaw. “I am a loyal daylight warrior.” “Then why are you meeting a cat from another tribe?” challenged Icywind. “You just can’t keep your mouth shut can you, Icywind?” muttered Tigerheart to himself as he stood up quietly and walked over. No cat seemed to notice him. “Because, because; she’s my……sister.” whispered Hitchclaw letting out all the defeat in his voice. “I’ve been meeting her here every night before I go to my twolegs because I miss her.” explained Hitchclaw. “We were separated at a young age. But you can’t tell anyone about this, you got it?” he growled. Both apprentices looked at him wide eyed and nodded their heads. “S-s-she’s your sister?” asked Tigerheart in astonishment. All cats looked at him in surprise. “Were you following us?” asked Weatherstorm. “Of course I was. I wanted to see how far you go.” explained Tigerheart. “I was about to stop you before Hitchclaw did.” “So you overheard it too?” asked Hitchclaw in a scared voice. “Yes I did but I won’t tell anyone unless you stay loyal and that you tell Sky of the Night.” soothed Tigerheart touching the tom’s shoulder. “Would you really do that Tigerheart?” whispered Hitchclaw. “Of course.” meowed Tigerheart sympathetically. “She’s your sister after all; not a different tribe cat.” “Thank you Tigerheart. You are a true healing cat.” meowed Jadestep gratefully. “But can Hitchclaw and I still meet every night?” “That’s up to Sky of the Night and Fur in the Gorse to decide.” meowed Tigerheart sternly. Jadestep sighed. “I’ll try and convince Fur in the Gorse but he might not let me.” sighed Jadestep. “At least you can still see each other at Peace Night.” suggested Tigerheart. All of a sudden, out of the corner of Tigerheart’s eye, he saw Weatherstorm and Icywind slowly start to pad away. “And for you two.” meowed Tigerheart stopping the apprentices in their tracks. “You will tell no cat about this ok? Sky of the Night will soon know and she will also like to have a long chat with you about respecting borders. Now let’s all go back to our territories.” growled Tigerheart sternly. Weatherstorm and Icywind looked at him with round eyes. “Yes Tigerheart.” muttered the siblings. Hitchclaw looked at him with an impressed gaze.

As the four cats arrived back in camp, all the cats were awake and the camp was bustling. Hitchclaw started to head up the leader’s rock. Tigerheart signaled the apprentices to follow him into the to-be-mothers den. As they entered, Snowpetal came rushing over; licking her kits on the head. “Where have you two been?!” she meowed sternly. “Your father and I have been worried sick.” Tigerheart looked at the apprentices sternly. “Go ahead and tell her everything.” He hoped they wouldn’t say anything about Jadestep though. But thankfully, they didn’t. Snowpetal looked at her kits in dismay. “Is this true Tigerheart?” she asked. “I’m afraid so Snowpetal. Hitchclaw and I saw it with our very own eyes.” meowed Tigerheart slowly. “Then why didn’t you stop them before they crossed the border?” hissed Snowpetal. Tigerheart looked at her in surprise. “Any cat would’ve done what I did. I wanted to see how far they would go before I stopped them.” “Which was the right thing to do.” interrupted Dawnflower who had overheard the conversation. “Every cat makes mistakes, Snowpetal.” meowed Tigerheart calmly. Snowpetal just glared at him and sent her kits outside of the nursery. Tigerheart sighed as he left the den; Snowpetal was a very protective mother; especially since this is her first ever litter and she didn’t want any of her kits to make a single mistake. Tigerheart clenched his teeth as he saw Midnightshadow limp over to him. “Could you check my paw Tigerheart?” asked Midnightshadow not meeting Tigerheart’s fierce gaze. Tigerheart nodded and felt the area. When he touched a certain area, Midnightshadow pulled his paw back immediately. “It’s bruised badly in this area.” exclaimed Tigerheart. “Does it hurt badly?” “I can’t move around in my nest at night so I’m never comfortable.” explained Midnightshadow focusing on his paw. “I’ll us daisy leaves instead of comfrey since you only having an aching, bruised joint and not a broken paw anymore.” suggested Tigerheart hurrying into the healing den and grabbing the silky, white leaves and dropping them at the tom’s ginger paws as he lapped them up. “Now I suggest you go rest for a while so the herbs kick in.” ordered Tigerheart. “Thank you, Tigerheart.” purred Midnightshadow looking at Tigerheart. Tigerheart looked away and heard a sigh from Midnightshadow as the tom headed towards the warrior’s den.

Chapter 17
Duskfur pounced on a mouse and killed it instantly. “Good catch.” meowed Weatherstorm. Duskfur nodded his head in thanks. Dusttail had invited him to join them for a hunt together. So far, Duskfur had caught one rabbit and a mouse. That’s no good for a warrior, he thought to himself. Today’s just not my day. Duskfur sighed. “I think it’s time to head back now.” exclaimed Dusttail. “We’ve been out here for a while; I think we have enough for the tribe.” Duskfur nodded his head and picked up his rabbit and mouse and dragged the kill all the way back to camp. As he entered camp; he noticed that everyone had settled down to share tongues. Duskfur looked around to see Dusttail had sat down beside Asteroidleap and they started to share tongues. Duskfur sighed; who could he share tongues with? Duskfur sat down and started to groom himself. All of a sudden Starflight came up to him and sat down beside him. Duskfur nodded his head and started to share tongues with the apprentice.

Duskfur fell in his nest exhausted. Duskfur dreamed that night. “W-w-w-where am I?” Duskfur stammered. All of a sudden he saw a moon. But not just any moon, a half moon. Duskfur looked at the moon in confusion. What was Sky Tribe trying to tell him? “Half a moon, half a moon, half…” Duskfur stopped in his tracks. Halfmoon! All of a sudden a sleek brown she-cat appeared. “Brightlight?” he asked cautiously. Brightlight nodded her head. “Why did you want me to understand?” he asked.  “Look at the moon.” she whispered. “I already did.” hissed Duskfur. “It’s half a moon.” “Exactly.” replied Brightlight. Duskfur looked at her in confusion. “Who does it remind you of?” Brightlight continued. “It reminds me of Halfmoon, the deputy of Star Tribe.” answered Duskfur. “Look more closely at the half moon.” ordered Brightlight. “There’s nothing else ther…” Duskfur was cut off by a gasp as he looked up to see a tiger next to the moon. “You don’t mean…?” Duskfur gasped. Could it be? It was as if Brightlight could read his mind. “Yes Duskfur. Halfmoon is Tigerheart’s father.”
